In Memory of Kenneth Mc Alpine

Those who knew Kenneth McAlpine would agree his was a life well lived. Kenny’s
occupation was a self-employed water well contractor.  He had a wonderful
marriage for 27 years with his wife Mona which produced three talented daughters.
He passed away suddenly in October of 2001.  Kenny had many interests including
motorcycles, golf, racquetball and he especially enjoyed spending time with his many
friends… but his greatest interest was helping others.  From neighbors to friends to
family, Kenny always offered a helping hand.

Kenny was a charter member of the Rogers Lions Club for 25 years starting January
14, 1977.  He held many positions including Lion Tamer, Tail Twister, and worked
his way up through the Vice President offices to become President in 1981-82.
Kenny received the Lion of the Year Award for his service in 1981-82 and again in
1990-91. In addition, he was honored with the Oliver Kapsner Award, which is the
Rogers Lions’ version of the Melvin Jones Award for his work over and above the
call of duty.

Kenny participated in all of the club’s many events including the steak fry, the
pancake breakfast, the walk-a-thon, and the annual Lions golf tournament. He also
played an important role in the planning of our club’s largest event, Rockin’ Rogers
Days. Kenny worked many tiring hours in collaboration with his fellow Lions to make
the event successful.

Kenny McAlpine was inducted into the MD5M hall of fame at the end of the 2005 -
2006 Lions year because Kenny McAlpine took great pride in being a member of
the Rogers Lions Club.  Through Lionism he developed many lasting relationships
that continue to be an ongoing support to his family. Kenny would come to Lions’
events with a big smile and a sense of humor that made the work enjoyable no matter
how difficult the task. His positive attitude and dedication was contagious and he
encouraged fellow Lions to be active members in the club. Kenny was always
pitching in at every event because community service was something he considered
important. He was a charter member who had perfect attendance for the entire 25
years he participated. Lion Kenny showed an uncommon commitment to serve and
had a tremendous effect on all of the lives he touched.
