In Memory of John Rogers
Lion John Rogers was only with us a very short time, but if anyone was born to be a
lion, it was John. Lion John came to us with a group of neighbors inquiring about
putting on a benefit for a neighbor that was having difficulties due to an illness. The
neighbors that requested our help were all so impressed with how we jumped in and
helped out, that they all became members themselves, including the neighbor that we
helped put the benefit on for. John did not "join" Rogers Lion, he became what it
means to be a Lion. No task or project was too small, if someone needed a hand,
he was the first to volunteer, if someone was down or out, he was the first to greet
them with a big smile and a "how ya doing?" All of this as he fought cancer himself.
Well the cancer finally took John from us, a short two years after he joined, but what
an impression he made upon us. He set the bar higher than we could have imagined
for what it is like to volunteer and even be cheerful and worried about others, when
he was on his final journey.
